Typical scene in Mexico. I didn't anticipate the ubiquitous burro. It is perfect for the smaller size farms. It eats less, is more manageable and is very versatile. This is shot on the street in front of our hotel in San Miguel.

Front door of the hotel. The owner was from Mexico City and spoke excellent English. He bought the place about 5 years ago. It was a typical single family villa at that time, with all the rooms arranged around a central courtyard.

They were having a press conference with Antonia Bandaras and the movie cast in our hotel Saturday afternoon, so the gardeners were laying out fresh cut flowers in a freshly planted planting bed in the courtyard of the hotel.

This would be our mount for the ride, a dirt model Suzuki DRZ400. It lacks the rear subframe of the street model, so we had our doubts about its ability to handle Steph sliding back much on the seat. If she got out on the fender, it would just collapse. Alexender Smith fabricated some passenger peg mounting tabs and Mark Johnson, of Baja support crew fame, welded them onto the dirt frame.

Mark Force and Malcolm prepping bikes on Saturday. We ended up working on bikes until late in the afternoon. Malcolm had done all the major prep in CA, so all we had to do was check tire pressures, adjust ride heights, etc.

I mounted this fender pack across the rear fender to provide some additional padding for Steph. One rear tube provided just the right amount of comfort.

View of San Miguel from the overlook up above the hotel. Gary Thompson and I ended up here after spending about 1.5 hours trying to find our way back to the hotel. We found the way quickly from here down a delightlfully twisty street down the face of this bluff.

Alexander and Malcolm working on the carb on Alex's bike. This was the actual KTM200 that Cycle World awarded "best enduro" bike in a recent issue. It still had the Cycle World stickers on it and the scars of typical press pool bike abuse.

Along the short walk from our hotel to the Smith's villa was a stone carving operation. This was one of their products.
