The ferry at our arrival point in Picton on the South Island. The ferry can hold up to 840 people and 290 vehicles. It is 98 meters (320.4 ft.) long and 26 meters (85 ft.) wide.

We were riding two up, so we rented a BMW GS650. Steph had ridden on the back of a DRZ-400 for a week in Mexico earlier this year, and said "no thanks" to another week on the rear fender.

The GS650 proved to be more comfortable for two up riding than the DRZ-400, albiet with less power than the 400...

We stopped in Nelson and picked up the pack for the rear rack. It worked great until Steph smuggled 20 lbs. of rocks she'd collected into it.
