Some of the NZ riders we met along the road. The guy on the right runs a little clothing store in the town we stopped at in the rain on day 3. He sold me a hat. There were all on their way to a big bike rally. Very eclectric group of riders, with bikes ranging from vintage Suzukis, Harleys, BMWs and Hondas.

Dennis and I stopped to see an old steam train and stumbled across the train shed. We ended up talking to a guy who owned one of the two engines parked here. He said the railroad had this steam excursion line up for sale and it would probably shut down after this year.

View of the cab of one of the engines. This one was owned by a private guy. It had been pulled from a river bank where it had rotted for 65 years and partially restored by a steam club. He bought it and finished the restoration with a friend of his.
